NOTE:This should be a complete no-brainer piece of brilliance: a pub incorporated into the mouldering elegance of Alexandra Palace, with the whole park as its beer garden and stunning views across London. What could possibly go wrong? Well, er, lots. Much like the palace itself, which has become an ill-considered cyborg of hideous remedial work stitched onto the collapsing body of the original, the pub fails through a lack of attention to detail, a cheapness, an absence of grandeur in its design, a basic failure to care. Bad furniture seemingly lies in randomly scattered groups, crap pop hits blare much too loudly from a TV in the corner, and the bar staff serve with all the enthusiasm of a teenager told to clear her room and all the speed of a glacier caught in the chilly season. So much could have been made of the elegant architecture, or of the large patio at the front, but the first rots in Connaught Place-style abandon while the second has all the elan of a car park. By all means buy a pint, go sit out in the beautiful park and dribble over the amazing views, but the pub itself is tawdry, money-grabbing and fairly depressing.
