NOTE:Okay, so it’s, um, a gastropub, trying so hard to be hip that I find it painful to look, and with the old fittings half ripped out, half remaining in a kind of mockery of its previous self. And yet and yet and yet, this is exactly the sort of thing the local population (overburdened with web designers and advertising executives as it is) seem to want. It keeps the riff raff out, serves nice beer and delicious food, is comfortably multicultural (although whether a collection of well-off middle class people from different racial backgrounds constitutes ‘multicultural’ is a different question) and manages to generate a low-key, relaxed kind of ambience. It’s sort of okay, although something about it suggests to me living in a gated community, or a cluster of retirement homes for North Europeans built by the million on the south coast of Spain.
