NOTE:This pub has been here for years, but unlike many others it has successfully reinvented itself to suit its new affluent surroundings. Just as the bleak windswept landscape that featured in "The Sweeney" was replaced by luxury flats and gleaming skyscrapers; the pub's original working class clientele have been displaced by Chardonnay sipping middle-aged couples who like their food drizzled in olive oil. This place is probably not for pub purists and I'm normally quite critical of gastro pubs myself, but this one has sort of won me over. The décor is rustic in a vaguely Mediterranean way and looked great in the milky winter sunshine. This combined with the music created that perfect laid back Sunday vibe. They serve a fine pint of beer here as well which makes a change from other pubs that have "gone gastro". Both Adnams Broadside and Brakspears bitter were available. There is a terrace at the back overlooking the Thames and the Millennium Dome. It's quite an impressive view, but only the hardcore should venture out there in January chill.
